Republican Congressmen are aghast that their right to use social media to perform their official duties might be infringed upon. In Michael Falcone's story in The New York Times today he quotes one Congressman saying: Leadership has told me personally that they will next focus on limiting our access to text, blogs, and other social media outlets on the Internet. This threat led to a twittering backlash you can follow at Tech Daily Dose.
One conservative blog cited in the article opined: Whatever intention the Democrats have, this idea is ridiculous. Congressmen should be able to decide for themselves where and how they interact with their constituents and the American people.
A new site has gone up that pronounces Congressional rules should not prevent lawmakers from joining us in online conversations.
If we would turn some of this anger and indignation into creating solutions so that federal agencies could join the online conversations to improve public health and social welfare - something they are currently forbidden to do. Let our government tweet!
