Stephan Dahl notes the local media coverage of a new program in Health & Social Marketing at Middlesex University. Within a few hours, there were some rather interesting comments on their website about the degree - calling it “a degree in Political Correctness” or “Masters of Dictatorship”.
The headline for the article 'Become a Master at Influencing Others' is provocative to start with. Included among the negative comments about the program that were submitted to the paper's website was this one:
Social marketing eh? Ah, so now we can have people who are "qualified" to interfere in our lives.
I don't often see unvarnished public reactions to social marketing and what we mean by it - let alone all of the other variations in definitions and applications that abound these days. These types of responses - notable here for being members of the public, but I am sure also lurk in the minds and hearts of some partners and donors - should be a wake up call for us to blow the dust off of our white hats and get engaged with our brand.
For most of us, brand happens while we're doing something else. - Marty Neumeier.
