Data compiled from a variety of Federal sources and released by the Census Bureau points to an aging baby boomer generation that are healthier, wealthier and wiser than previous groups of people over the age of 60. Coverage in the NY Times focuses on the 'good news' that anticipated stresses this cohort would put on the health care system may be overstated. But lack of family support and resources for care-giving to elderly boomers may place an increasing burden of the government. The Christian Science Monitor takes a more cautionary POV, noting that while a better financial position may favor marketers to this vast age group, implications for decisions about Social Security and other entitlements are potentially more ominous.
